Carburetor Service and Repair
Why Fixing your Carburetor is Important
Since 1972, back when we were known as the 28th Street Garage, The Auto Repair Place has been Boulder’s go-to repair shop for all your carburetor needs. Modern cars now employ fuel injection systems. If you have a late-model used car that you aren’t sure is going to pass emissions or a classic car, you’ll most likely need carburetor maintenance or repairs. A carburetor repair is oftentimes the result of letting your car sit for too long without starting it. Without starting your car, your carburetor will corrode or become gummed-up. When this happens your car won’t start and the carburetor needs to be repaired immediately.
What is a Carburetor?
Before the advent of the electronically-controlled fuel injection systems present in vehicles from the mid-90s to present-day, a carburetor was used in virtually all vehicles to mix air and fuel to perform the chemical reaction of combustion, which is what makes the engine run. It is the carburetor’s very important job to get the fuel-air ratio just right so that the fuel burns properly and efficiently in a number of different driving conditions. When an automotive engine has too much or too little air it can cause problems for the engine, car, and environment.
Carburetors were developed by Karl Benz (that’s right, the Mercedes guy) in the late 19th century, and have been around ever since. Today, carburetors are mainly found in classic cars and industrial vehicles. Their “vintage” quality makes it all the more important that you find specialized technicians with years of experience servicing, repairing and rebuilding carburetors. With decades of experience, certified technicians, and unbeatable nationwide warranty, The Auto Repair Place is Boulder’s best bet for carburetor maintenance and repair.
