Toyota Tacoma Maintenance

How to Take Care of your Toyota Tacoma

Regular maintenance will keep your Toyota Tacoma running in tip top shape. Just like any other vehicle, there are recommended maintenance tasks that should be performed by your local Toyota repair shop every so many miles or months. Your owner’s manual will have the most accurate maintenance schedule, but we’ve compiled a list (based off Toyota’s recommendations) to help you get started.

Every 5,000 Miles

Every 10,000 Miles

Inspect the following:

  • Brake hoses and lines
  • Engine coolant
  • Condenser and radiator
  • Fuel tank cap
  • Transmission fluid
  • Steering components
  • Exhaust pipe and its mountings
  • Ball joints
  • Fuel lines

At 15,000, 45,000 Miles

  • Perform routine 5,000-mile maintenance tasks
  • Lubricate the propeller shaft and re-torque bolt

At 20,000, 40,000, 80,000 Miles

  • Perform routine 5,000-mile maintenance tasks
  • Replace cabin air filter

At 30,000, 60,000, 75,000, 90,000, 105,000 Miles

  • Perform routine 5,000-mile maintenance tasks
  • Lubricate the propeller shaft and re-torque bolt
  • Replace spark plugs

At 100,000 Miles

  • Perform routine 5,000-mile maintenance tasks
  • Replace cabin air filter
  • Replace engine coolant

At 120,000 Miles

  • Perform routine 5,000-mile maintenance tasks
  • Lubricate the propeller shaft and re-torque bolt
  • Replace engine air filter
  • Replace cabin air filter
  • Replace spark plugs

If Driving in Hazardous Conditions

If you drive on dirt roads or while towing, additional maintenance will be required every 5,000 miles or so.

  • Inspect ball joints
  • Lubricate and re-torque the propeller shaft
  • Make sure that chassis and body bolts are tightly secure
  • Inspect the engine air filter
  • Inspect the steering boots and linkage

Under normal wear and tear, these things would only need to be done every 10,000 miles. But because you’re harder on your truck, you’ll need to perform a little extra maintenance more frequently to keep it running in tip-top shape.

Maintenance is an important part of owning a vehicle. While it’s important to be diligent about oil changes and other routine maintenance tasks, it’s just as crucial to bring your truck to a trusted Toyota Tacoma repair center who knows and understands how your vehicle works.
